Michal Škapa (1978)
I'm interested
The artistic roots of Michal Škapa, also known by the pseudonym Tron, can be traced to the environment of graffiti and street art, which shaped his artistic expression and are still evident in his approach. The artist’s work shifted from streets to galleries, gaining deeper contents and more subtle expression, yet retaining the freedom and authentic characteristics of a street art environment. Murals dominate Škapa’s work, often enriched with structures made of neon tubes or various wires, which convert the form of the hanging picture towards the embossed object. The motif of the city and urban landscape plays a crucial role in his work. The second big topic of his is the work with writing, often transformed into abstract dynamic characters with encrypted content; in mutual cross-fading and layering together with the artist’s often tiny handwriting style, it leads to condensing the content and making it difficult to read.
Selected exhibitions:
T2B, Václav Špála Gallery, Prague, CZE, 2021
Summer Art Salon, KODL Gallery, Prague, CZE, 2021
Polis, Gallery at the Bethlehem Chapel, Prague, CZE, 2020
Just Kids, The Chemistry Gallery, Prague, CZE, 2019
