Lukáš Rittstein
Lukáš Rittstein (1973). The distinctive Czech sculptor Lukáš Rottstein is characterised primarily by biomorphic sculptures on the border between reality and abstraction. His work is influenced by numerous expeditions to explore the indigenous tribes of New Guinea, which he undertook together with photographer Barbora Šlapetová. In his sculptural work, he combines unusual morphologies. He confronts natural materials with artificial ones, and this sculptural dialogue is analogous to the clash of indigenous cultures with modern Western civilisation. Rittstein is one of the few Czech sculptors who managed to establish his works in the public space. His art is able to engage in dialogue with the surrounding architecture and thus become a full-fledged permanent part of it.
