21. 6. – 19. 8. 2022
The KODL Contemporary Summer Art Salon presents leading artists of the contemporary scene for the fifth time. The unifying element is not only the emphasis on quality but especially on originality of expression, sovereignty, and unmistakability. You can visit the exhibition at the KODL Gallery from the 21st of June to the 19th of August.
When we first opened the Summer Art Salon at the KODL Gallery five years ago, our motivation was to bring the youngest generation of contemporary artists closer to Czech society. For the first couple of years, we focused mainly on the medium of paintings. Last year, however, our salon expanded to include photography, and this year we decided to dedicate the salon mainly to this medium. Photography is still a relatively under-appreciated medium in the Czech Republic, which is a great pity because we have many photographers whose images have conquered the world's most essential gallery halls. Many contemporary artists use photography in their creative process. The work of all the artists we have approached for this year's salon is closely linked to photography. There are internationally renowned professionals such as Antonín Kratochvíl, Ivan Pinkava, and Sebastião Salgado, artists who cannot work without photography. Then we have artists using videos, projections, or new technologies and optical devices in their work - Adam Kašpar and Jakub Nepraš, and Louise Frydman, who was attracted to the principle of photography while studying at the American International Center of Photography in New York, and since then has been working mainly with light and contrast, which is an integral part of the photographic process. In four years, the medium of photography will celebrate its bicentennial, and it is my great wish that it will achieve the same appreciation as other contemporary art forms.
