Stefan Milkov

Stefan Milkov (1955) is a sought-after artist and founding member of the Tvrdohlaví (‘The Stubborn’) group, whose work is represented in many important Czech and foreign collections, both state and private. His approach is postmodern, but it also conceals an admiration for classical modern sculpture of the first half of the 20th century. The characteristic smooth, very elegant lines and the use of unusual perspective abbreviations prove the artist’s long-term sculptural experience, supported by selected training at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Uherské Hradiště and later at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. The choices of themes cannot conceal the artist’s typical, postmodernist and ironic language, which, at the same time, does not deny the sculptor’s respect for ancient archetypal symbols, often referring to distant non-European cultures.
