The pre-auction exhibition for the 91st KODL Gallery auction showcases a wide collection of fine art from the 19th and 20th centuries, extending into contemporary work.
The generation of contemporary artists is represented here by well-known names such as Rudolf Burda, Michal Cimala, Jiří Černický, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Martin Janecký, Jan Kaláb, Jiří Kaloč, Adam Kašpar, Lukáš Novák, Pasta Oner, Jan Pištěk, Jaroslav Róna, Jiří Sopko, Michal Škapa, Jiří Štourač and Štefan Tóth.
Four authors whose main domain is glass are represented in the auction repertoire. However, each of the authors approaches this very difficult technology of creation in their own way.
In his work, Martin Janecký primarily works with a technique that is mastered by only a few people in the world, namely by hand shaping glass from the inside of a hot bulb, the so-called inside bubble sculpting. The technology, which does not use any forms, is one of the most difficult disciplines in working with glass. His statue The Thinker will be presented at the auction.
The exhibited work of Lukáš Novák represents another of the author's technological specialties – his own unique glass-stone material. His work Vertical Blue is the very first object created with this unique technology and is therefore a collector's item.
Rudolf Burda's Star of Jungle abstract object presenting his fascination with space and wild nature is made of Czech hand-polished, perfectly pure crystal. The center of the composition becomes a larger, thick-walled mirror ball, around which 24 smaller imitations of it regularly orbit. The author works here with his typical and favorite magical principle of infinite mirroring.
The world-renowned artist Rony Plesl is known for using the special Vitrum Vivum technology, which enables the casting of large glass objects. At the auction, this time he is presenting not only a glass sculpture (Corset I; it will be auctioned in a charity auction for Paraple), but also another, so far little-discovered side of his own work - the work Translucent from the series of drawings of the same name on perforated paper, which is proof of the author's feeling due to its ephemerality for the impermanence and eternal questions of human existence.
Traditionally, a whole constellation of diverse painting approaches is also represented, from abstraction to figurative painting to experimental work.
The spectacular work Flaming Kaleidoscope 1123 comes from the studio of one of the most sought-after contemporary artists, Jan Kalab. The sophisticated compositional system of many self-made blindframes of organic shapes by the author together represents a unified painting object and reminds the fleeting experience of a fleeting moment when several small particles in a kaleidoscope come together in a single color synchrony.
Velká Niva comes from the palette of a prominent representative of the youngest generation of contemporary Czech painters, Adam Kašpar, whose work has already found its way into a number of important world collections and has become part of many domestic and international solo and collective exhibitions. The forest is one of the three central themes of Kašpar's work, along with space and geology.
The ingenious canvas JB 007 represents the characteristic position of the creation of Pasta Oner. In this work, he elaborates on the phenomenon of the famous "Bond Girls" and thus refers to the golden era of Bond films of the fifties and sixties.
The work Untitled represents a characteristic example of Monika Žáková's work. The author gradually abandoned painting tools and adopted work procedures that are more typical of sculptural or architectural work. She uses light, space, composition, movement, as well as various materials, such as fabrics, metals, paper and plaster, which are both the basic technology and the basic content of her work. The work of this author will be auctioned as part of the charity part of the auction together with works by a number of other well-known contemporary authors. Jan Hísek, Šárka Koudelová, Jakub Matuška (Masker), Michal Mráz, Jiří Petrbok, Rony Plesl and Jakuba Špaňhel also decided to support the non-profit organization Centrum Paraple with their works.
The pre-auction exhibition also presents a wide-ranging collection of fine art from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Among other things, a surrealist oil by Emil Filla, a rediscovered early canvas by Jan Zrzavý, or a hitherto unknown painting by Toyen will be presented here.
The auction will take place on May 26 from 12 noon in Prague's Žofín. Interested parties will also have the opportunity to bid online at the Artslimit.com auction portal.
