Jakub Tomáš
Jakub Tomáš (1982) is a prominent figure in contemporary Czech painting. He went through the studios of important figures of the second half of the 20th century, such as Vladimír Kokolia and Jiří Sopko. He then spent a year in London and more recently on a residency in France. From an early age, Tomáš was fascinated by drawing and then painting. A major turning point in his painting came in 2013, when he began to create a three-dimensional objects from painting. He builds the compositions of his paintings as models and then creates visual puzzles. The flatness and two-dimensionality of the painting suddenly disappears. Tomáš uses his painting to build scenery and construct subtle scenes that often demand the viewer’s maximum attention. In general, this opens up new possibilities, which he can transform into a distinctive language, lively and engaging.
