Jan Pištěk
Jan Pištěk (1961) is an important figure of the middle generation of contemporary Czech painting, which began to assert itself at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. His distinctive painting style, which went through many stages, has developed into a harmonious blending of realistic and abstract expression, into a unique symbiosis of reality and fiction. In his work, he has deviated from classical painting techniques and developed his own distinctive style, combining non-traditional methods and materials. By pouring layers of colour, inserting small objects into the painting, imprinting or transferring the projected image almost blindly, he has achieved a unique, attractive artistic self-expression, the captivating nature of which stems from the ubiquitous association attacking the viewer’s imagination.
