Vladimír Véla

Despite his affiliation with the young generation of Czech painters, Vladimír Véla (1980) is an author whose work has resonated on the Czech scene for many years. He is represented in many state collections and participated in the seminal exhibition The Butterfly Effect? at the Rudolfinum in Prague, which proves to be almost an initiation for contemporary Czech painting in general. In his early years, during his studies with Prof. Beran, Véla worked in the vein of figurative painting. After a while, however, he transcended the limits of this way of painting, came up with a drastic change and began to paint motifs inspired by nature or religious themes. He then moved to the Intermedia Studio of Prof. Milan Knížák. He proceeds in a very concentrated way and understands the element of nature itself comprehensively with all its connotations and references. It is his previous experience as a figurative painter that allows Vladimír Véla to achieve unprecedented confidence even in the case of his painterly abbreviations.
